4	4	Louis Provenza
5	5	WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Dr. Louis Provenza of
6	6	Wichita Falls on May 4, 2021, at the age of 67, has brought an
7	7	incalculable loss to his family, friends, and many admirers; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on January 23,
9	9	1954, to Louis and Rosalie Provenza, Louis Provenza grew up with
10	10	the companionship of his sisters, Diana, Andrea, and Anne; after
11	11	attending Jesuit High School in his hometown, he earned a
12	12	bachelor's degree in biology from Tulane University in 1975; he
13	13	went on to receive his medical degree from Tulane in 1979, and
14	14	following his internship and residency, he was board certified as
15	15	a neurological surgeon; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Throughout his stellar medical career,
17	17	Dr. Provenza was unwavering in his dedication to his patients,
18	18	and in addition to holding membership in numerous professional
19	19	societies, he served on a multitude of committees focused on
20	20	patient care; he had the distinction of being the first physician
21	21	in Louisiana to perform artificial disc implantation, and he was
22	22	the recipient of several awards for his achievements in medicine;
23	23	after relocating to Wichita Falls, where he worked for the United
24	24	Regional Health Care System, he became a valued member of the
25	25	community and developed numerous close friendships among his
26	26	neighbors and colleagues; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Although Dr. Provenza was a consummate medical
28	28	professional, he was equally dedicated to his loved ones; he and
29	29	his wife, Becky Whitten Provenza, shared a rewarding marriage,
30	30	and he was deeply devoted to his children, Michelle and Benjamin
31	31	Provenza, and his stepchildren, Rebecca Owen and John Suarez; he
32	32	was further blessed with five grandchildren, Luke Owen, Evelyn
33	33	Suarez, Amelia Owen, Sadie Suarez, and the late Harper Provenza,
34	34	and his family also included Harper's mother, the late Anna
35	35	Calhoun; and
36	36	WHEREAS, Although the passing of Dr. Louis Provenza has
37	37	deeply saddened those who held him dear, they may find comfort in
38	38	remembering the exceptional life that he led and the immeasurable
39	39	benefits he brought to his patients and to all who had the good
40	40	fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
41	41	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
42	42	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Louis
43	43	Provenza and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
44	44	family: to his wife, Becky Whitten Provenza; to his children,
45	45	Michelle Provenza and Benjamin Provenza; to his stepchildren,
46	46	Rebecca Owen and John Suarez; to his sisters, Diana Provenza
47	47	Landry, Andrea Provenza Madden, and Anne Provenza Sandefur; to
48	48	his grandchildren, Luke Owen, Evelyn Suarez, Amelia Owen, and
49	49	Sadie Suarez; to his nieces, nephews, and cousins; and to his
50	50	other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
51	51	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
52	52	prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
53	53	this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Louis Provenza.
