| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jack Hetzel of Big Sandy has fulfilled a |

| 3 | 3 | | lifelong dream by receiving his high school diploma at the age of |

| 4 | 4 | | 99; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Circumstances when he was a child forced |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Dr. Hetzel to drop out of school in the third grade, and although |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | he earned a GED, he has regretted never receiving a high school |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | diploma; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Now, at the age of 99, this determined gentleman |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | was at last awarded his diploma, and he was honored at the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | graduation ceremony at Big Sandy High School on May 28, 2021; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A longtime pastor at First United Methodist |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Church, Dr. Hetzel has lived a rich and purposeful life; he takes |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | well-deserved pride in his service during World War II, when he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | fought in Normandy and took part in the Battle of the Bulge; he |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | will turn 100 in the fall of 2021; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, At an age when most people slow down and look |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | back, Dr. Jack Hetzel set a challenging new goal for himself and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | achieved it, and his determination and lifelong passion for |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | knowledge serve to inspire all those who are fortunate enough to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | know him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Jack Hetzel on receiving his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | high school diploma at the age of 99 and extend to him sincere |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it |
|---|

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
