SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 559
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Webb County Specialty Drug Courts for helping to
restore the lives of families in the community; and
WHEREAS, Drug treatment courts serve as a cornerstone for
the justice reform currently sweeping the nation; the specialty
courts are recognized for being highly successful systems of
justice, as they significantly reduce crime and improve outcomes
for those with substance abuse disorders; and
WHEREAS, More than 1.5 million individuals have been
served through the nation's network of nearly 4,000 treatment
courts; Webb County is host to three of those courts, the DWI
Court Program, the Drug Court Program, and the Veterans Treatment
Court Program; and
WHEREAS, These specialty courts have notably reduced the
rates of addiction and addiction-related crimes and have
improved individual outcomes in areas that include education,
employment, housing, and financial stability; the programs have
also promoted family reunification and have led to an increase in
the number of babies born drug-free; and
WHEREAS, Drug treatment courts help to facilitate
community partnerships that bring together professionals in both
public safety and public health to the benefit of individuals,
families, and the greater community; all who have contributed to
the success of the Webb County Specialty Drug Courts are indeed
deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
Legislature, hereby commend the staff and partners of the Webb
County Specialty Drug Courts for their valuable service to
citizens and extend to them best wishes for continued success;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
these courts as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
