| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Howie Richey, who is retiring from the Engrossing and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Enrolling Department and bringing to a close many years of |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | exceptional service to the Texas Senate; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A beloved and highly regarded staff member, Howie |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | was first hired by the E & E Department in 1975 as a temporary |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | session employee; during a career that has spanned more than four |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | decades, he has been an indispensable asset to the Senate in his |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | positions as proofreader, proofing team leader, proofreading |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | supervisor, and legal editor; in each of the positions in which |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | he has served, he has been noted for his sharp eye for detail, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | strong work ethic, and unflappable demeanor in the face of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | challenging deadlines; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Howie has played an integral role in the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | production of countless proclamations, resolutions, and bills |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | during 17 regular sessions and many special sessions; he has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | witnessed sweeping changes in public policy and in office |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | technology, and he was among those longtime staff members who |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | transitioned into the new office at the Capitol Extension after |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | its completion; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Howie is known for his keen interest in state |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | government and its processes and for his fierce loyalty to his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | colleagues who serve at the Senate; throughout his employment, he |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | has given generously of his time to plan office events, and he has |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | been a key participant in such groups as the Senate Spoon Band and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the Senate choir; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Admired for his positive attitude and friendly |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | nature and famous for his quirky yet classy fashion sense, Howie |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Richey is a treasured member of the Texas Senate family, and his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | presence in the Engrossing and Enrolling Department will be |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby commend Howie Richey on his successful |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | career and his valuable contributions to the Texas Senate and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | extend to him sincere best wishes in all his future endeavors; |
