2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | join citizens across the state in recognizing February 15, 2021, |
---|
4 | 4 | | as Texas Council on Family Violence Day at the Capitol; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A nationally recognized nonprofit coalition and a |
---|
6 | 6 | | leader in the effort to end family violence, the Texas Council on |
---|
7 | 7 | | Family Violence is dedicated to creating safer communities and to |
---|
8 | 8 | | helping those affected by family violence; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The council seeks to promote safe and healthy |
---|
10 | 10 | | relationships and offers education, training, and technical |
---|
11 | 11 | | assistance for those who provide support services for victims of |
---|
12 | 12 | | family violence; the council also facilitates strategic |
---|
13 | 13 | | prevention efforts and provides an influential voice on public |
---|
14 | 14 | | policy regarding domestic violence victims; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Throughout the past year, the council has focused |
---|
16 | 16 | | on the new challenges and needs of family violence victims due to |
---|
17 | 17 | | the COVID-19 pandemic; during the pandemic, more than 80 percent |
---|
18 | 18 | | of victims of family violence have reported increased difficulty |
---|
19 | 19 | | in relationships, and the reports of family violence to law |
---|
20 | 20 | | enforcement have increased by nearly nine percent; resource |
---|
21 | 21 | | agencies have responded by significantly bolstering virtual and |
---|
22 | 22 | | telephone services and by transforming shelters to accommodate |
---|
23 | 23 | | social distancing and the increased number of citizens in need of |
---|
24 | 24 | | assistance; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Council on Family Violence plays a vital |
---|
26 | 26 | | role in supporting and advocating for those affected by family |
---|
27 | 27 | | violence; the council has made a profound difference in the lives |
---|
28 | 28 | | of countless individuals, and it is truly fitting that a day be |
---|
29 | 29 | | set aside to honor the council's invaluable service on behalf of |
---|
30 | 30 | | vulnerable Texans; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Council on Family Violence |
---|
33 | 33 | | on its exemplary efforts to end family violence and extend to its |
---|
34 | 34 | | members best wishes for a rewarding Texas Council on Family |
---|
35 | 35 | | Violence Day at the Capitol; and, be it further |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
37 | 37 | | the council as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
