11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 66
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 join citizens across the state in recognizing February 15, 2021,
44 as Texas Council on Family Violence Day at the Capitol; and
55 WHEREAS, A nationally recognized nonprofit coalition and a
66 leader in the effort to end family violence, the Texas Council on
77 Family Violence is dedicated to creating safer communities and to
88 helping those affected by family violence; and
99 WHEREAS, The council seeks to promote safe and healthy
1010 relationships and offers education, training, and technical
1111 assistance for those who provide support services for victims of
1212 family violence; the council also facilitates strategic
1313 prevention efforts and provides an influential voice on public
1414 policy regarding domestic violence victims; and
1515 WHEREAS, Throughout the past year, the council has focused
1616 on the new challenges and needs of family violence victims due to
1717 the COVID-19 pandemic; during the pandemic, more than 80 percent
1818 of victims of family violence have reported increased difficulty
1919 in relationships, and the reports of family violence to law
2020 enforcement have increased by nearly nine percent; resource
2121 agencies have responded by significantly bolstering virtual and
2222 telephone services and by transforming shelters to accommodate
2323 social distancing and the increased number of citizens in need of
2424 assistance; and
2525 WHEREAS, The Texas Council on Family Violence plays a vital
2626 role in supporting and advocating for those affected by family
2727 violence; the council has made a profound difference in the lives
2828 of countless individuals, and it is truly fitting that a day be
2929 set aside to honor the council's invaluable service on behalf of
3030 vulnerable Texans; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3232 Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Council on Family Violence
3333 on its exemplary efforts to end family violence and extend to its
3434 members best wishes for a rewarding Texas Council on Family
3535 Violence Day at the Capitol; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3737 the council as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
