55 WHEREAS, Residents of Marion County lost a dedicated
66 public servant with the passing of County Commissioner Joe Edward
77 McKnight of Jefferson on January 31, 2021, at the age of 62; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of J. C. "Sonny" McKnight and Lawana Gayle
99 Russell McKnight, Joe McKnight was born on April 26, 1958, in
1010 Marshall, and he grew up with the companionship of two brothers,
1111 Charles and David; in 1974, he began a career in the oil industry
1212 that spanned more than three decades; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. McKnight was elected as Marion County
1414 commissioner for Precinct 2 in 2011, and he served with
1515 distinction in that office until the time of his passing; during
1616 his tenure, he helped implement numerous initiatives, including
1717 a major renovation project to update the Marion County
1818 courthouse; and
1919 WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. McKnight served with
2020 the Smithland Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years; in
2121 addition, he was a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge #38 and
2222 the Jim's Bayou Masonic Lodge #491 A.F. & A.M.; and
2323 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. McKnight benefited from
2424 the love and support of his wife, Kim, with whom he shared a
2525 rewarding marriage of more than four decades, and he took great
2626 pride in his two children, Wendy and Russell, and in his five
2727 grandchildren, Peyton, Trenton, Presley, Lila, and Heath; in his
2828 leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing; and
2929 WHEREAS, Joe McKnight gave freely of his time and expertise
3030 to better his community, and he leaves behind a record of service
3131 that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be
3232 it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3434 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Marion County
3535 Commissioner Joe Edward McKnight and extend sincere sympathy to
3636 all who mourn his passing; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3838 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
3939 this day, it do so in memory of Joe Edward McKnight.
