5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Marion County lost a dedicated |
---|
6 | 6 | | public servant with the passing of County Commissioner Joe Edward |
---|
7 | 7 | | McKnight of Jefferson on January 31, 2021, at the age of 62; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of J. C. "Sonny" McKnight and Lawana Gayle |
---|
9 | 9 | | Russell McKnight, Joe McKnight was born on April 26, 1958, in |
---|
10 | 10 | | Marshall, and he grew up with the companionship of two brothers, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Charles and David; in 1974, he began a career in the oil industry |
---|
12 | 12 | | that spanned more than three decades; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. McKnight was elected as Marion County |
---|
14 | 14 | | commissioner for Precinct 2 in 2011, and he served with |
---|
15 | 15 | | distinction in that office until the time of his passing; during |
---|
16 | 16 | | his tenure, he helped implement numerous initiatives, including |
---|
17 | 17 | | a major renovation project to update the Marion County |
---|
18 | 18 | | courthouse; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. McKnight served with |
---|
20 | 20 | | the Smithland Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years; in |
---|
21 | 21 | | addition, he was a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge #38 and |
---|
22 | 22 | | the Jim's Bayou Masonic Lodge #491 A.F. & A.M.; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. McKnight benefited from |
---|
24 | 24 | | the love and support of his wife, Kim, with whom he shared a |
---|
25 | 25 | | rewarding marriage of more than four decades, and he took great |
---|
26 | 26 | | pride in his two children, Wendy and Russell, and in his five |
---|
27 | 27 | | grandchildren, Peyton, Trenton, Presley, Lila, and Heath; in his |
---|
28 | 28 | | leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Joe McKnight gave freely of his time and expertise |
---|
30 | 30 | | to better his community, and he leaves behind a record of service |
---|
31 | 31 | | that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be |
---|
32 | 32 | | it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Marion County |
---|
35 | 35 | | Commissioner Joe Edward McKnight and extend sincere sympathy to |
---|
36 | 36 | | all who mourn his passing; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

38 | 38 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
