2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Merry Klonower, who is retiring on February 26, 2021, |
---|
4 | 4 | | as the director of the Communications Office of the Texas Water |
---|
5 | 5 | | Development Board after nearly 20 years of outstanding service to |
---|
6 | 6 | | the state; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Merry Klonower joined the Texas Water Development |
---|
8 | 8 | | Board in 2006 after having previously served the state as an |
---|
9 | 9 | | employee of The University of Texas; in the course of her career, |
---|
10 | 10 | | she has held positions in public relations and communications in |
---|
11 | 11 | | a range of industries and has served as an adjunct faculty member |
---|
12 | 12 | | at a number of universities; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 2011, she began her tenure of leadership in the |
---|
14 | 14 | | Communications Office of the Texas Water Development Board, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | since that time, she has overseen the development and execution |
---|
16 | 16 | | of public relations and communications initiatives for the |
---|
17 | 17 | | agency, including media relations and outreach, and editorial, |
---|
18 | 18 | | creative, and publication services; she led the agency's entry |
---|
19 | 19 | | into social media and managed the development and launch of the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Texas Water Newsroom, and she has contributed to the success of |
---|
21 | 21 | | multiple Water for Texas conferences; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, She played a key role in advocacy efforts for |
---|
23 | 23 | | several constitutional amendments, including Proposition 6 in |
---|
24 | 24 | | 2013, which created the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas |
---|
25 | 25 | | and the State Water Implementation Revenue Fund for Texas, and |
---|
26 | 26 | | Proposition 8 in 2019, which created the Flood Infrastructure |
---|
27 | 27 | | Fund; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, she is an exemplary |
---|
29 | 29 | | public servant, and her skills and expertise have made her a |
---|
30 | 30 | | valuable asset to the agency; she is respected and admired by her |
---|
31 | 31 | | colleagues, and her leadership in the Communications Office of |
---|
32 | 32 | | the Texas Water Development Board will be greatly missed; now, |
---|
33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby commend Merry Klonower on her distinguished |
---|
36 | 36 | | career and her exceptional service to the people of Texas as an |
---|
37 | 37 | | employee of the Texas Water Development Board and extend to her |
---|
38 | 38 | | best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be |
---|
39 | 39 | | it further |
