77 relating to the appeal of an election contest.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 232.014, Election Code,
1010 is amended to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 232.014. APPEAL OF ELECTION CONTEST [ACCELERATED
1212 APPEAL IN PRIMARY CONTEST].
1313 SECTION 2. Sections 232.014(a) and (d), Election Code, are
1414 amended to read as follows:
1515 (a) This section applies [only] to the contest of a general,
1616 special, or primary election.
1717 (d) As soon as practicable after an appeal in a contest is
1818 perfected, the district judge shall set the deadline for filing the
1919 trial court record in the appellate court. The judge shall [may]
2020 make any other orders to expedite an appeal that are reasonable and
2121 appropriate, including reducing the time normally allowed for
2222 filing appellate briefs, subject to review by the appellate court
2323 on motion of a party.
2424 SECTION 3. Sections 232.014(f) and 232.015, Election Code,
2525 are repealed.
2626 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the
2727 last day of the legislative session.
