| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is | |
| 10 | 10 | amended by adding Section 51.979 to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | Sec. 51.979. COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MEMBERSHIP. | |
| 12 | 12 | Notwithstanding any other section of this code, a public senior | |
| 13 | 13 | college or university, as defined by Section 61.003(4), and the | |
| 14 | 14 | governing board of each institution may not change membership in a | |
| 15 | 15 | collegiate athletic conference without passage of a concurrent | |
| 16 | 16 | resolution by a majority vote in both legislative chambers. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 18 | 18 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 19 | 19 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 20 | 20 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 21 | 21 | Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the | |
| 22 | 22 | legislative session. |
