66 AN ACT
77 relating to acceptable forms of identification for voting.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 63.0101(a), Election Code, is amended to
1010 read as follows:
1111 (a) The following documentation is an acceptable form of
1212 photo identification under this chapter:
1313 (1) a driver's license, election identification
1414 certificate, or personal identification card issued to the voter
1515 [person] by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or
1616 that expired no earlier than four years before the date of
1717 presentation;
1818 (2) a United States military identification card that
1919 contains the voter's [person's] photograph that has not expired or
2020 that expired no earlier than four years before the date of
2121 presentation;
2222 (3) a United States citizenship certificate issued to
2323 the voter [person] that contains the voter's [person's] photograph;
2424 (4) a United States passport book or card issued to the
2525 voter [person] that has not expired or that expired no earlier than
2626 four years before the date of presentation; [or]
2727 (5) a license to carry a handgun issued to the voter
2828 [person] by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or
2929 that expired no earlier than four years before the date of
3030 presentation;
3131 (6) an official Native American identification card or
3232 tribal document that:
3333 (A) contains the voter's photograph and address;
3434 and
3535 (B) is issued by a tribal organization or by a
3636 tribe that is federally recognized and located in this state;
3737 (7) an identification card issued by a public or
3838 private institution of higher education located in this state that
3939 contains the voter's photograph; or
4040 (8) an identification card issued by a state agency of
4141 this state that contains the voter's photograph.
4242 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4343 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4444 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4545 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4646 Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the
4747 legislative session.
