55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, In recent years, the Hill Country community of Llano
77 has become known throughout Texas as a thriving center for the sport
88 of barrel racing; and
99 WHEREAS, The John L. Kuykendall Event Center and Arena
1010 attracts a multitude of competitors and fans to the city, and the
1111 Llano Chamber of Commerce estimates that the economic impact from
1212 barrel racing exceeds $1 million annually; and
1313 WHEREAS, From 2016 to 2020, the number of barrel races held at
1414 the JLK Arena grew by 200 percent, with total annual race days
1515 increasing from 50 to 120; approximately 150 events are slated to
1616 take place in 2021, and the venue is also used for practice sessions
1717 for several days each week; and
1818 WHEREAS, Renowned as one of the safest barrel racing
1919 facilities in Texas, the JLK Arena has been honored with a Justin
2020 Boots Best Footing Award from the Women's Professional Rodeo
2121 Association in recognition of the exceptional ground conditions at
2222 its races; and
2323 WHEREAS, Barrel racing is a source of pride and prosperity
2424 for the residents of Llano, and the city's efforts to showcase the
2525 sport are furthering the rich rodeo heritage of the Lone Star State;
2626 now, therefore, be it
2727 RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas,
2828 1st Called Session, hereby designate Llano as the official Barrel
2929 Racing Capital of Texas; and, be it further
3030 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
3131 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
3232 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
3333 passed by the legislature.
