| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Sammie Ward of Sam's Barber Shop in San Antonio has |

| 7 | 7 | | distinguished himself as a leader in his community through his |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | efforts as a businessman, an advocate, and a local historian; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Gonzales, Sam Ward began cutting hair at |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Randolph Air Force Base, and at the age of 75, he is one of the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | oldest Black barbers still working in San Antonio; for several |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | decades, he has been serving his customers at Sam's Barber Shop at |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | East Commerce Street, on the East Side of San Antonio; over the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | years, he has cut the hair of multiple generations of the same |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | families, and his shop has established itself as a place where area |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | residents can gather to share stories, build relationships, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | discuss issues of importance to the community; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Ward has long been a stalwart supporter of his |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | neighborhood, serving as its unofficial historian, as a mentor and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | counselor to younger people, and as an advocate for new businesses; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | his wisdom and generosity have earned him many loyal customers, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | during the COVID-19 pandemic, he volunteered his shop as a site for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | delivering vaccinations to the public as part of the "Shots at the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Shop" initiative; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Those Texas businesspeople who build a record of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | dependability and longevity enjoy a special degree of esteem in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | their communities, and for many years, Sam Ward has been a beloved |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and respected champion for the East Side of San Antonio; now, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Sammie Ward for his |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | long service to his community and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
