6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |
---|
7 | 7 | | of Carl James Cahill Jr. of Sonora, who passed away on June 4, 2021, |
---|
8 | 8 | | at the age of 78; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Wanda and Carl Cahill, Jimmy Cahill was |
---|
10 | 10 | | born on May 29, 1943, and grew up with the companionship of a |
---|
11 | 11 | | sister, Diana; he graduated from Sonora High School in 1961, and he |
---|
12 | 12 | | went on to attend Texas Tech University, where he earned a degree in |
---|
13 | 13 | | business administration in 1966; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cahill enjoyed a successful career working for |
---|
15 | 15 | | Carl J. Cahill, Inc., his father's oil field construction company; |
---|
16 | 16 | | he eventually took over the business, and under his able |
---|
17 | 17 | | leadership, the company served countless ranchers and oilmen |
---|
18 | 18 | | throughout Texas; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A skilled entrepreneur, Mr. Cahill contributed |
---|
20 | 20 | | immeasurably to the vitality and economic well-being of Sonora; he |
---|
21 | 21 | | supported local mohair producers by founding Sonora Mohair & |
---|
22 | 22 | | Company and Ol' Sonora Trading Company, and he created I-10 |
---|
23 | 23 | | Magazine to promote area businesses; in addition, he helped |
---|
24 | 24 | | organize Covered Wagon Dinner Theater at the Caverns of Sonora, and |
---|
25 | 25 | | he served on the board of the Eaton Hill Nature Center and Preserve; |
---|
26 | 26 | | and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cahill was married to the former Ruthie Shafer |
---|
28 | 28 | | for 43 years until her passing in 2010; fortunate enough to find |
---|
29 | 29 | | love again, he shared a fulfilling relationship of 11 years with his |
---|
30 | 30 | | second wife, Linda Cahill; he was the devoted father of two |
---|
31 | 31 | | children, Kelly and Chacho, and he took great pride in his |
---|
32 | 32 | | grandchildren, Rebeckah, Reagan, Gage, Lane, and Carson; he also |
---|
33 | 33 | | had the pleasure of welcoming into his family a stepdaughter, Amy |
---|
34 | 34 | | Love Sykes, and her children; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Cahill enjoyed ranching, |
---|
36 | 36 | | hunting, and fishing, as well as following Sonora Broncos football |
---|
37 | 37 | | and watching horse races; he held a deep appreciation for history, |
---|
38 | 38 | | and he gave numerous historical tours of Sonora and Sutton County; |
---|
39 | 39 | | and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Jimmy Cahill lived a life that was rich in personal |
---|
41 | 41 | | and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of |
---|
42 | 42 | | inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
45 | 45 | | of Carl James Cahill Jr. and extend sincere condolences to his loved |
---|
46 | 46 | | ones; and, be it further |
---|
47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
48 | 48 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
49 | 49 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jimmy |
