55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
77 of Carl James Cahill Jr. of Sonora, who passed away on June 4, 2021,
88 at the age of 78; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Wanda and Carl Cahill, Jimmy Cahill was
1010 born on May 29, 1943, and grew up with the companionship of a
1111 sister, Diana; he graduated from Sonora High School in 1961, and he
1212 went on to attend Texas Tech University, where he earned a degree in
1313 business administration in 1966; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Cahill enjoyed a successful career working for
1515 Carl J. Cahill, Inc., his father's oil field construction company;
1616 he eventually took over the business, and under his able
1717 leadership, the company served countless ranchers and oilmen
1818 throughout Texas; and
1919 WHEREAS, A skilled entrepreneur, Mr. Cahill contributed
2020 immeasurably to the vitality and economic well-being of Sonora; he
2121 supported local mohair producers by founding Sonora Mohair &
2222 Company and Ol' Sonora Trading Company, and he created I-10
2323 Magazine to promote area businesses; in addition, he helped
2424 organize Covered Wagon Dinner Theater at the Caverns of Sonora, and
2525 he served on the board of the Eaton Hill Nature Center and Preserve;
2626 and
2727 WHEREAS, Mr. Cahill was married to the former Ruthie Shafer
2828 for 43 years until her passing in 2010; fortunate enough to find
2929 love again, he shared a fulfilling relationship of 11 years with his
3030 second wife, Linda Cahill; he was the devoted father of two
3131 children, Kelly and Chacho, and he took great pride in his
3232 grandchildren, Rebeckah, Reagan, Gage, Lane, and Carson; he also
3333 had the pleasure of welcoming into his family a stepdaughter, Amy
3434 Love Sykes, and her children; and
3535 WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Cahill enjoyed ranching,
3636 hunting, and fishing, as well as following Sonora Broncos football
3737 and watching horse races; he held a deep appreciation for history,
3838 and he gave numerous historical tours of Sonora and Sutton County;
3939 and
4040 WHEREAS, Jimmy Cahill lived a life that was rich in personal
4141 and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of
4242 inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4444 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4545 of Carl James Cahill Jr. and extend sincere condolences to his loved
4646 ones; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4949 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jimmy
5050 Cahill.
