6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas |
---|
7 | 7 | | have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and |
---|
8 | 8 | | workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives |
---|
9 | 9 | | in the pandemic was Joe Landin, a dedicated and well-respected |
---|
10 | 10 | | employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, who passed |
---|
11 | 11 | | away on December 28, 2020, at the age of 54; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Landin began his career with the TDCJ at the |
---|
13 | 13 | | Tulia Unit in 1993 and transferred to the Montford Unit in Lubbock |
---|
14 | 14 | | in 1995; he retired at the age of 50 before returning to the |
---|
15 | 15 | | Montford Unit three years later; he was known for his commitment to |
---|
16 | 16 | | his work, and he often volunteered to assist during staff shortages |
---|
17 | 17 | | or during times of crisis, including major storms in 2005 and 2020; |
---|
18 | 18 | | in recognition of his outstanding record of service, he was |
---|
19 | 19 | | presented with one of the first Montford Unit challenge coins; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Landin took great pride in |
---|
21 | 21 | | his four children and delighted in time spent with his seven |
---|
22 | 22 | | grandchildren; in the workplace, he was highly esteemed by his |
---|
23 | 23 | | fellow staff members, who appreciated his sincerity and empathy, as |
---|
24 | 24 | | well as his delightful sense of humor; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Joe Landin faithfully and ably performed his duties |
---|
26 | 26 | | throughout his tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal |
---|
27 | 27 | | Justice, and he will long be remembered with great admiration by all |
---|
28 | 28 | | who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
---|
31 | 31 | | Joe Landin and extend deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and |
---|
32 | 32 | | colleagues; and, be it further |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
34 | 34 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
35 | 35 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe Landin. |
