6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas |
---|
7 | 7 | | have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and |
---|
8 | 8 | | workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives |
---|
9 | 9 | | in the pandemic was Randall Sims, a dedicated and well-respected |
---|
10 | 10 | | employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, who passed |
---|
11 | 11 | | away on January 3, 2021, at the age of 57; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sims began his career at TDCJ in October 1992 |
---|
13 | 13 | | and was assigned to the French Robertson Unit in Abilene; he later |
---|
14 | 14 | | transferred to the Havins Unit before being promoted to sergeant |
---|
15 | 15 | | and then to lieutenant at the San Saba Unit; he briefly retired in |
---|
16 | 16 | | 2013 before rejoining the Havins Unit in October 2017; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sims enjoyed the love and |
---|
18 | 18 | | support of his wife of 37 years, Tina, and he took great pride in his |
---|
19 | 19 | | five children, Malinda, Chrystal, Jennifer, Randy, and Jessica, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | his 20 grandchildren; active in his community, he regularly |
---|
21 | 21 | | participated in livestock shows and other events that benefited the |
---|
22 | 22 | | Mullin Independent School District; over the course of his 28 years |
---|
23 | 23 | | at TDCJ, he served as a mentor to many and was highly esteemed for |
---|
24 | 24 | | his selfless and generous nature; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Randall Sims faithfully and ably performed his |
---|
26 | 26 | | duties throughout his tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal |
---|
27 | 27 | | Justice, and he will long be remembered with great admiration by all |
---|
28 | 28 | | who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
---|
31 | 31 | | Randall Sims and extend deepest sympathy to his family, friends, |
---|
32 | 32 | | and colleagues; and, be it further |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
34 | 34 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
35 | 35 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Randall |
---|
36 | 36 | | Sims. |
