55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas
77 have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and
88 workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives
99 in the pandemic was Randall Sims, a dedicated and well-respected
1010 employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, who passed
1111 away on January 3, 2021, at the age of 57; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Sims began his career at TDCJ in October 1992
1313 and was assigned to the French Robertson Unit in Abilene; he later
1414 transferred to the Havins Unit before being promoted to sergeant
1515 and then to lieutenant at the San Saba Unit; he briefly retired in
1616 2013 before rejoining the Havins Unit in October 2017; and
1717 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sims enjoyed the love and
1818 support of his wife of 37 years, Tina, and he took great pride in his
1919 five children, Malinda, Chrystal, Jennifer, Randy, and Jessica, and
2020 his 20 grandchildren; active in his community, he regularly
2121 participated in livestock shows and other events that benefited the
2222 Mullin Independent School District; over the course of his 28 years
2323 at TDCJ, he served as a mentor to many and was highly esteemed for
2424 his selfless and generous nature; and
2525 WHEREAS, Randall Sims faithfully and ably performed his
2626 duties throughout his tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal
2727 Justice, and he will long be remembered with great admiration by all
2828 who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3030 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
3131 Randall Sims and extend deepest sympathy to his family, friends,
3232 and colleagues; and, be it further
3333 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3434 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3535 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Randall
3636 Sims.
