55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas
77 have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and
88 workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives
99 in the pandemic was Treva Preston, a dedicated and well-respected
1010 employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, who passed
1111 away on January 15, 2021, at the age of 57; and
1212 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Preston began her career with TDCJ as a
1313 training sergeant at the Hamilton Unit in Bryan and was later
1414 promoted to lieutenant; she shared a rewarding family life with her
1515 husband, Melvin, their two daughters, Bianca and Monique, and their
1616 granddaughter; she enjoyed spending her leisure time going on
1717 cruises, dancing, solving crossword puzzles, and playing cards and
1818 dominoes; in the workplace, her sincerity and caring mentorship
1919 earned her the lasting respect of her coworkers, who affectionately
2020 referred to her as "Mama Bear"; and
2121 WHEREAS, Treva Preston faithfully and ably performed her
2222 duties throughout her tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal
2323 Justice, and she will long be remembered with great admiration by
2424 all who were privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2626 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
2727 Treva Preston and extend deepest sympathy to her family, friends,
2828 and colleagues; and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3030 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
3131 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Treva
3232 Preston.
