| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in the pandemic was Treva Preston, a dedicated and well-respected |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | employee of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, who passed |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | away on January 15, 2021, at the age of 57; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Preston began her career with TDCJ as a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | training sergeant at the Hamilton Unit in Bryan and was later |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | promoted to lieutenant; she shared a rewarding family life with her |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | husband, Melvin, their two daughters, Bianca and Monique, and their |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | granddaughter; she enjoyed spending her leisure time going on |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | cruises, dancing, solving crossword puzzles, and playing cards and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | dominoes; in the workplace, her sincerity and caring mentorship |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | earned her the lasting respect of her coworkers, who affectionately |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | referred to her as "Mama Bear"; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Treva Preston faithfully and ably performed her |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | duties throughout her tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Justice, and she will long be remembered with great admiration by |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | all who were privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Treva Preston and extend deepest sympathy to her family, friends, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and colleagues; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Treva |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Preston. |
