55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
77 passing of Earl Wayne Fletcher Sr. of Longview on July 3, 2021, at
88 the age of 95; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Herman and Alice Fletcher, Earl Fletcher
1010 was born in Rio Hondo on April 24, 1926, and he grew up with the
1111 companionship of 10 siblings, Don, Bob, Barbara, Melvin, Doug,
1212 David, Johnny, Karen Ann, Nancy, and Evalynn; he graduated from Rio
1313 Hondo High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree at Texas
1414 A&I University in Kingsville; answering his nation's call to duty,
1515 he joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Franklin
1616 during World War II; and
1717 WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Fletcher became a
1818 chemist at the Hoechst Celanese Corporation and later worked as an
1919 insurance agent for State Farm; and
2020 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Fletcher enjoyed the love
2121 and support of his wife, Ruth, with whom he shared a rewarding union
2222 until her passing; he took great pride in his two children, Wayne
2323 and Elaine, and with the passing years, he had the pleasure of
2424 seeing his family grow to include six grandchildren and six
2525 great-grandchildren; sustained by a deep and abiding faith, he was
2626 a valued congregant of First Baptist Church Kingsville, where he
2727 also served as a deacon; upon moving to Village Mills in 1996, he
2828 joined Wildwood Baptist Church; and
2929 WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his
3030 country, Earl Fletcher earned the lasting respect and admiration of
3131 all who were privileged to know him, and they will forever hold him
3232 close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3434 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
3535 Earl Wayne Fletcher Sr. and extend sincere condolences to all who
3636 mourn his passing; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3939 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Earl
4040 Fletcher.
