| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | passing of Earl Wayne Fletcher Sr. of Longview on July 3, 2021, at |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the age of 95; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Herman and Alice Fletcher, Earl Fletcher |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | was born in Rio Hondo on April 24, 1926, and he grew up with the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | companionship of 10 siblings, Don, Bob, Barbara, Melvin, Doug, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | David, Johnny, Karen Ann, Nancy, and Evalynn; he graduated from Rio |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Hondo High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree at Texas |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | A&I University in Kingsville; answering his nation's call to duty, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | he joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Franklin |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | during World War II; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Fletcher became a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | chemist at the Hoechst Celanese Corporation and later worked as an |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | insurance agent for State Farm; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Fletcher enjoyed the love |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and support of his wife, Ruth, with whom he shared a rewarding union |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | until her passing; he took great pride in his two children, Wayne |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and Elaine, and with the passing years, he had the pleasure of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | seeing his family grow to include six grandchildren and six |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | great-grandchildren; sustained by a deep and abiding faith, he was |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | a valued congregant of First Baptist Church Kingsville, where he |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | also served as a deacon; upon moving to Village Mills in 1996, he |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | joined Wildwood Baptist Church; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | country, Earl Fletcher earned the lasting respect and admiration of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | all who were privileged to know him, and they will forever hold him |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Earl Wayne Fletcher Sr. and extend sincere condolences to all who |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Earl |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Fletcher. |
