55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Residents of Austin are gathering on August 14,
77 2021, to celebrate CommUNITY Day in honor of the grand reopening of
88 Waterloo Park; and
99 WHEREAS, Situated along Waller Creek, this 11-acre outdoor
1010 space has undergone a number of updates over the last decade and now
1111 features a variety of amenities, including a hike-and-bike trail,
1212 spacious lawns, playgrounds, Hill Country Gardens, and the Moody
1313 Amphitheater; the revitalization project was brought to fruition by
1414 Waterloo Greenway Conservancy, which strives to restore Waller
1515 Creek and create an urban park system that extends from 15th Street
1616 to Lady Bird Lake; and
1717 WHEREAS, Dubbed "CommUNITY Day," the grand reopening event of
1818 Waterloo Park marks the completion of Phase One of the Waterloo
1919 Greenway park system; in addition to the ribbon-cutting ceremony,
2020 the celebration will feature live performances, youth activities,
2121 programming on STEM and environmental topics, and booths from local
2222 organizations; in the evening, guests can attend the "Taste of
2323 Austin" concert showcase at the Moody Amphitheater; and
2424 WHEREAS, Waterloo Park will benefit the people of Austin for
2525 many years to come, and all those involved in creating this
2626 beautiful public space may indeed take great pride in their
2727 contributions; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2929 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate CommUNITY Day
3030 in honor of the grand reopening of Waterloo Park and extend to all
3131 those in attendance sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and
3232 memorable event; and, be it further
3333 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3434 prepared for Waterloo Greenway Conservancy as an expression of high
3535 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
