| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville on the occasion of |

| 4 | 4 | | its 50th anniversary; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Gladys Porter Zoo is one of the foremost |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | institutions in the Rio Grande Valley for treasuring and preserving |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | nature through education, conservation, and research; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The zoo has long emphasized science education for |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | children; each year, approximately 45,000 students visit the zoo |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and learn about the importance of conservation and the care of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | wildlife; the number one animal rehabilitation facility in the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Rio Grande Valley, the zoo has treated countless animals and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | returned them to their native habitats; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, This exceptional facility continues to add new |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | programs and is soon adding Phase Two of the El Mundo Huasteco y |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Totonaco Project; the project will then exhibit ocelots, a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | critically endangered animal and South Texas icon; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, For 50 years, the Gladys Porter Zoo has been a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | vital part of the fabric of life in the Rio Grande Valley, and it |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | is truly deserving of special recognition as it reaches this |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend the management and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | staff of the Gladys Porter Zoo on their outstanding work and extend |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | to them best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the zoo as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
