SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 33 In Memory of Esther C. Cornejo WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Cameron County in mourning the loss of Esther C. Cornejo, who died May 31, 2021, at the age of 94; and WHEREAS, A native of Brownsville, Esther Cornejo was born to Jose and Santos Cavazos in 1926; she attended Brownsville High School, and she earned her diploma in 1944; and WHEREAS, Esther worked briefly for a law firm before joining the Cameron County Clerk's Office in 1946; she was an esteemed public servant, and she distinguished herself during tenures as deputy clerk and chief deputy clerk for the county before retiring in 1992 after more than 44 years of service; and WHEREAS, She married Juan Escobedo Cornejo on January 2, 1947, at Iglesia Metodista Unida El Buen Pastor, where she was a devoted and lifelong member; she and her beloved husband were blessed with five children, who they raised by loving spiritual example, and her 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren were a source of immense pride and joy for her; and WHEREAS, A beloved matriarch, Esther Cornejo was a treasured member of the Cameron County community, and she leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Esther C. Cornejo; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Esther Cornejo.
