| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Cameron County in mourning the loss of Esther C. |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Cornejo, who died May 31, 2021, at the age of 94; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Brownsville, Esther Cornejo was born |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to Jose and Santos Cavazos in 1926; she attended Brownsville High |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | School, and she earned her diploma in 1944; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Esther worked briefly for a law firm before |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | joining the Cameron County Clerk's Office in 1946; she was an |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | esteemed public servant, and she distinguished herself during |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | tenures as deputy clerk and chief deputy clerk for the county |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | before retiring in 1992 after more than 44 years of service; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, She married Juan Escobedo Cornejo on January 2, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 1947, at Iglesia Metodista Unida El Buen Pastor, where she was a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | devoted and lifelong member; she and her beloved husband were |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | blessed with five children, who they raised by loving spiritual |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | example, and her 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | great-great-grandchildren were a source of immense pride and joy |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | for her; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A beloved matriarch, Esther Cornejo was a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | treasured member of the Cameron County community, and she leaves |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Esther C. Cornejo; and, be |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |

| 34 | 34 | | memory of Esther Cornejo. |
