| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Grover Wist Trytten in honor of the grand occasion of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | his 100th birthday; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A native of Decorah, Iowa, Grover Trytten was born |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | on July 15, 1921, and he moved with his family to Ann Arbor, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Michigan, as a young boy; in 1939, he earned his diploma from the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Laboratory School at the University of Michigan, where his father |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | served as principal; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Grover enlisted in the United States Army on |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | August 8, 1942; he earned the rank of second lieutenant during |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | officer training and was assigned to the Ordnance Department; he |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | was deployed to Braintree Airfield near London and helped to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | provide vital supplies and support for the 646th Bombardment |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Squadron; his unit's outstanding abilities helped ensure victory |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | for the Allies in pivotal battles, including the Battle of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Bulge, and his unit was honored with the American Presidential |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Citation Award; in 2014, the French government awarded Grover the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Legion of Honour; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, After the war, Grover pursued a doctoral degree in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | botany at Michigan State University; he contributed to many |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | notable technological advancements during a long and rewarding |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | career in engineering research that included pioneering projects |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | for the United States Department of Defense and the automotive |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | industry; he joined Texas Instruments in 1978 and worked for the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | company in Houston and Plano before retiring in 1989; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Grover shared many years of marriage with his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | beloved wife, the late Lola Sanders Trytten; they were blessed |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | with a daughter, Lynn Carol Trytten, and his three grandsons and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | nine great-grandchildren are a source of great pride and joy for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | him; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished veteran currently resides in |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Georgetown, where he is a treasured member of his Sun City |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | community; his recent 100th birthday is an important milestone, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and this special occasion was indeed a fitting time for his |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | friends and loved ones to express their admiration and affection; |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend to Grover Wist |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Trytten congratulations on his 100th birthday and best wishes for |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in his |
