5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Judith Mary Pickle Lancaster, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | March 17, 2021, at the age of 102; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Judith Lancaster was born on March 6, 1919; she |
---|
9 | 9 | | grew up in Big Spring, where she was named Most Popular Girl in |
---|
10 | 10 | | her 1936 graduating class at Big Spring High School; she went on |
---|
11 | 11 | | to earn a degree from The University of Texas at Austin; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, After her graduation, she worked on the war effort |
---|
13 | 13 | | in West Texas, and she married Jonathan Lancaster in 1943; their |
---|
14 | 14 | | children, Diantha Alspaugh, Meredith Lancaster, and David |
---|
15 | 15 | | Lancaster, were a source of much pride and joy for her, and she |
---|
16 | 16 | | was blessed with seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, |
---|
17 | 17 | | and a great-great-grandchild; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Once Judith's children reached school age, she |
---|
19 | 19 | | began a fulfilling, 30-year career as a teacher; after her |
---|
20 | 20 | | retirement in 1982, she and Jonathan moved to Austin and were |
---|
21 | 21 | | active in a wide range of area organizations, including Meals On |
---|
22 | 22 | | Wheels, the First United Methodist Church, and the LAMP program |
---|
23 | 23 | | at The University of Texas at Austin; a lifelong progressive |
---|
24 | 24 | | Democrat, Judith was extremely gratified at the election of the |
---|
25 | 25 | | nation's first African American president; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, A woman of courage, grace, and generosity, she |
---|
27 | 27 | | gave unselfishly to others, and she will long be remembered for |
---|
28 | 28 | | her loving spirit and her enthusiasm for living each day to the |
---|
29 | 29 | | fullest; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
---|
31 | 31 | | and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by |
---|
32 | 32 | | her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
---|
35 | 35 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Judith Mary Pickle |
---|
36 | 36 | | Lancaster; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

38 | 38 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |

39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
