5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Gwendolyn Fay Satterfield Barjon, who |
---|
7 | 7 | | died April 22, 2020, at the age of 61; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Gwendolyn Satterfield was born on September 25, |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1958, in Chicago; she grew up in a strong household with the |
---|
10 | 10 | | values of hard work, respect, and faith, and she graduated from |
---|
11 | 11 | | Lindblom Technical High School in 1976; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, She earned a degree from Grinnell College in Iowa |
---|
13 | 13 | | in 1980, and she later returned to school and earned her master of |
---|
14 | 14 | | science degree in education from The University of Texas at |
---|
15 | 15 | | Dallas; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Gwen married her trusted friend, Paul Barjon, on |
---|
17 | 17 | | January 2, 1988; she served as a research assistant at The |
---|
18 | 18 | | University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and she later |
---|
19 | 19 | | became a teacher at Saint Philip's School and Community Center; |
---|
20 | 20 | | during her 28-year career at the school, she served as a science |
---|
21 | 21 | | teacher, a principal, and a director of Science and Innovation; |
---|
22 | 22 | | she and Paul were blessed with three children and a |
---|
23 | 23 | | granddaughter; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Gwen enjoyed singing throughout her life and was |
---|
25 | 25 | | admired for her angelic voice; she took great joy in singing at |
---|
26 | 26 | | school functions and in the choir at Saint Luke's Community |
---|
27 | 27 | | United Methodist Church, and she later became a member of Antioch |
---|
28 | 28 | | Missionary Baptist Church; she greatly enjoyed time spent |
---|
29 | 29 | | traveling and cooking and harvesting food that she grew in her |
---|
30 | 30 | | expansive organic garden; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Gwendolyn was guided in all things by her faith |
---|
32 | 32 | | and her love of family; she was a treasured member of the Dallas |
---|
33 | 33 | | community, and she leaves behind memories that will long be |
---|
34 | 34 | | cherished by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, |
---|
35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
---|
38 | 38 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Gwendolyn Fay Satterfield |

39 | 39 | | Barjon; and, be it further |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

41 | 41 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |

42 | 42 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
