55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the reporting of political expenditures made by certain
88 persons or entities before and during a special session of the
99 legislature.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Sections 254.0391(a) and (c), Election Code, are
1212 amended to read as follows:
1313 (a) A statewide officeholder, a member of the legislature,
1414 or a specific-purpose committee for supporting, opposing, or
1515 assisting a statewide officeholder or member of the legislature, or
1616 a candidate for statewide office or the legislature or a
1717 specific-purpose committee for supporting or opposing the
1818 candidate, that accepts a political contribution or makes a
1919 political expenditure during the period beginning on the date the
2020 governor signs the proclamation calling a special legislative
2121 session and continuing through the date of final adjournment shall
2222 report the contribution or expenditure to the commission not later
2323 than the 30th day after the date of final adjournment.
2424 (c) Each report required by this section must include, as
2525 applicable:
2626 (1) the amount of the political contribution, the full
2727 name and address of the person making the contribution, and the date
2828 of the contribution; and
2929 (2) the amount of the political expenditure, the full
3030 name and address of each person to whom the expenditure is made, and
3131 the date and purpose of the expenditure.
3232 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
3333 a political expenditure made on or after the effective date of this
3434 Act.
3535 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the
3636 last day of the legislative session.
