| 6 | 6 | | relating to acceptable forms of identification for voting. |

| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 63.0101(a), Election Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (a) The following documentation is an acceptable form of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | photo identification under this chapter: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (1) a driver's license, election identification |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | certificate, or personal identification card issued to the voter |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | [person] by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | that expired no earlier than four years before the date of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | presentation; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (2) a United States military identification card that |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | contains the voter's [person's] photograph that has not expired or |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | that expired no earlier than four years before the date of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | presentation; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (3) a United States citizenship certificate issued to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the voter [person] that contains the voter's [person's] photograph; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (4) a United States passport book or card issued to the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | voter [person] that has not expired or that expired no earlier than |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | four years before the date of presentation; [or] |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (5) a license to carry a handgun issued to the voter |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | [person] by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | that expired no earlier than four years before the date of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | presentation; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (6) an official Native American identification card or |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | tribal document that: |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (A) contains the voter's photograph and address; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (B) is issued by a tribal organization or by a |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | tribe that is federally recognized and located in this state; |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | (7) an identification card issued by a public or |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | private institution of higher education located in this state that |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | contains the voter's photograph; or |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | (8) an identification card issued by a state agency of |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | this state that contains the voter's photograph. |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | legislative session. |
