8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. The heading to Section 232.014, Election Code, | |
10 | 10 | is amended to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 232.014. APPEAL OF ELECTION CONTEST [ACCELERATED | |
12 | 12 | APPEAL IN PRIMARY CONTEST]. | |
13 | 13 | SECTION 2. Sections 232.014(a) and (d), Election Code, are | |
14 | 14 | amended to read as follows: | |
15 | 15 | (a) This section applies [only] to the contest of a general, | |
16 | 16 | special, or primary election. | |
17 | 17 | (d) As soon as practicable after an appeal in a contest is | |
18 | 18 | perfected, the district judge shall set the deadline for filing the | |
19 | 19 | trial court record in the appellate court. The judge shall [may] | |
20 | 20 | make any other orders to expedite an appeal that are reasonable and | |
21 | 21 | appropriate, including reducing the time normally allowed for | |
22 | 22 | filing appellate briefs, subject to review by the appellate court | |
23 | 23 | on motion of a party. | |
24 | 24 | SECTION 3. Sections 232.014(f) and 232.015, Election Code, | |
25 | 25 | are repealed. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the | |
27 | 27 | last day of the legislative session. |
