55 AN ACT
66 relating to acceptable forms of identification for voting.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Section 63.0101(a), Election Code, is amended to
99 read as follows:
1010 (a) The following documentation is an acceptable form of
1111 photo identification under this chapter:
1212 (1) a driver's license, election identification
1313 certificate, or personal identification card issued to the person
1414 by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or that
1515 expired no earlier than four years before the date of presentation;
1616 (2) a United States military identification card that
1717 contains the person's photograph that has not expired or that
1818 expired no earlier than four years before the date of presentation;
1919 (3) a United States citizenship certificate issued to
2020 the person that contains the person's photograph;
2121 (4) a United States passport book or card issued to the
2222 person that has not expired or that expired no earlier than four
2323 years before the date of presentation; [or]
2424 (5) a license to carry a handgun issued to the person
2525 by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or that
2626 expired no earlier than four years before the date of presentation;
2727 or
2828 (6) an identification card issued by a public
2929 institution of higher education located in this state that contains
3030 the person's photograph, date of birth, and full legal name and that
3131 has not expired or that expired no earlier than four years before
3232 the date of presentation.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the
3434 last day of the legislative session.
