45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, John D. Clifton of Livingston passed away on July
67 18, 2021, at the age of 76, leaving behind many loved ones to
78 treasure his memory; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Houston on October 19, 1944, John Clifton
910 was the son of Joe Allison and Ellen Bernice Clifton; he enjoyed the
1011 companionship of four brothers, Michael, Joe, Jimmy, and Donnis,
1112 and two sisters, Debra and Deliah Sue, and during his childhood in
1213 Polk County, he attended school in Goodrich; in August 1968, he was
1314 drafted into the United States Army, and he was deployed to Long
1415 Binh, Vietnam, to serve in the 92nd Engineer Battalion; he rose to
1516 the rank of specialist 5, and after receiving an honorable
1617 discharge in March 1970, he returned to Goodrich; and
1718 WHEREAS, Mr. Clifton benefited from his military experience
1819 in his civilian work as a surveyor; he went on to find employment
1920 with the Port of Houston Authority, where he earned promotion to
2021 field inspector in the engineering department and later retired
2122 after 25 years of service; and
2223 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, Mr. Clifton enjoyed
2324 the love and support of his wife, Frances, and his two children,
2425 Justin and Robin; he was further blessed with five grandchildren,
2526 Kim, Robert, Kade, Kane, and Lauren, and two great-grandchildren,
2627 Karlee and Elliott; he was a man of strong faith, as well as a proud
2728 veteran, a true patriot, and a loyal member of the Republican Party;
2829 in addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed being
2930 outdoors and working on projects around his home; and
3031 WHEREAS, John Clifton lived a full and generous life
3132 surrounded by those he loved, and he will forever be remembered with
3233 great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3435 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
3536 of John D. Clifton and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
3637 family: to his wife, Frances Clifton; to his children, Justin
3738 Clifton and his wife, Megan, and Robin Saxe and her husband, Scott;
3839 to his sister, Debra Clifton, and brother, Michael Clifton; to his
3940 grandchildren, Kim Lowery, Robert Rippy, Kade Clifton, Kane
4041 Clifton, and Lauren Leggett; to his great-grandchildren, Karlee
4142 Lowery and Elliott Lowery; to his sister- and brother-in-law,
4243 Elizabeth and Rock McGrath; to his special nieces, Sydney Elder,
4344 Alexis Ward, Ashley Ward, Alyssa Ward, Meagan Monroe, and Monica
4445 Murphy; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John
4849 Clifton.
