45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The life of an admired lawyer, rancher, and
67 philanthropist came to a close with the death of Joseph Harold Pool
78 of Amarillo on June 29, 2021, at the age of 87; and
89 WHEREAS, Joe Pool was born in Dallas on May 6, 1934, to Harold
910 Oscar Pool and Elizabeth Sneed Pool Robinett; as a child, he moved
1011 with his family to Amarillo, and he graduated from Amarillo High
1112 School in 1952; he went on to study economics at Stanford
1213 University, and after earning his law degree from The University of
1314 Texas at Austin, he returned to Amarillo to begin his law practice
1415 and to serve as trustee of the estate of his grandfather, Joseph
1516 Tyre Sneed Jr., who began ranching in the Panhandle in 1906 and
1617 served as president of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers
1718 Association in 1938; and
1819 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to promoting the arts and education
1920 across the Panhandle area, Mr. Pool gave generously to a host of
2021 causes; he was integral to the development of Ascension Academy,
2122 and many other organizations and institutions also benefited from
2223 his involvement, including the Globe-News Center Performance Hall,
2324 Amarillo Botanical Gardens, Amarillo College, Amarillo Little
2425 Theatre, Amarillo Museum of Art, Amarillo Opera, Boy Scouts of
2526 America Golden Spread Council, First Christian Church, Lone Star
2627 Ballet, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, St. Hyacinth Church,
2728 Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation, and West Texas A&M University;
2829 and
2930 WHEREAS, A man of many interests, Mr. Pool held a deep
3031 passion for history and artifacts; he loved to visit places of
3132 historical significance, and one highlight of his travels was
3233 planting a Texas flag at the North Pole; in addition, he was a
3334 natural at roping cattle and especially enjoyed riding on horseback
3435 throughout the Sneed Ranch in search of Native American relics and
3536 cavalry memorabilia; and
3637 WHEREAS, Mr. Pool and his first wife, Marilyn Myers, were
3738 blessed with three children, Pam, Tory, and Marci; he later married
3839 the former Arlene Veneras Gall, with whom he shared his life for
3940 more than 35 years until her passing on June 4, 2019; through the
4041 years, Mr. Pool had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to
4142 include six grandchildren, Michelle, Lacey, Rey, Christina,
4243 Tanner, and Stanton, and six great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brandon,
4344 Lucio, Roman, Troy, and Maddox; and
4445 WHEREAS, Admired for his dry wit, big heart, and humble
4546 spirit, Joe Pool leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured
4647 by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
4748 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4849 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
4950 Joseph Harold Pool and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of
5051 his family: to his children, Pam Stevens and her husband, Scott,
5152 Tory Freeman and her husband, John, and Marci Hand; to his
5253 grandchildren, Michelle Ott, Lacey Cruz, Rey Jordan, Christina
5354 Vallon, Tanner Pena, and Stanton Hand; to his great-grandchildren,
5455 Aiden, Brandon, Lucio, Roman, Troy, and Maddox; and to his other
5556 relatives and friends; and, be it further
5657 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5758 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5859 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joseph
5960 Harold Pool.
