| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The retirement of the Honorable Marc Holder as judge |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of Brazoria County Court at Law No. 2 on December 31, 2022, provides |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | a fitting opportunity to reflect on his two decades of outstanding |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | service to his fellow citizens; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, First elected to the court in 2002, Judge Holder has |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | been reelected, unopposed, every four years since; in 2004, after |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | only a year on the bench, he was appointed presiding judge of the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | County Courts at Law by his fellow judges; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Brazoria County, Marc Holder |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | University of Houston in 1977 and his law degree magna cum laude |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | from South Texas College of Law in 1982; a practicing attorney for |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | nearly four decades, he is licensed to handle civil, family, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | criminal, and probate cases in the state courts of Texas, as well as |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the U.S. District Court, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | U.S. Supreme Court; he is a former president of the Brazoria County |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Bar Association; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Engaged in his community, Judge Holder has been a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | member of the Rotary Club, the board of the Boys Club, and the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Angleton Umpires Association, and he was an adjunct professor at |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Alvin Community College; he has coached state and national |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | championship teams for the Angleton Girls Softball Association, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | he has served as a volunteer child support collector, a volunteer at |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the Red Cross Hurricane Relief Center, and an umpire for the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | University Interscholastic League; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Judge Holder enjoys a rewarding family life with his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | wife, the Honorable Terri Tipton Holder, and their three children, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Stephani, Randi, and Cody, and 10 grandchildren; for nearly four |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | decades, Judge Holder has attended Second Baptist Church, where he |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | has served as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, and a singer with |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the Praise Team; and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Marc Holder's tenure as a jurist has been |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | characterized by diligence, integrity, and a love of the law, and it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | is indeed a privilege to join with residents of Brazoria County in |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | honoring him for his many years of public service; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | be it |

| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Marc Holder on |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | his retirement from Brazoria County Court at Law No. 2 and extend to |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 46 | 46 | | prepared for Judge Holder as an expression of high regard by the |
