44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Judge K. Randall Hufstetler is retiring from the
66 300th Judicial District Court of Brazoria County in December 2022,
77 drawing to a close nearly a quarter century of distinguished
88 service on the bench; and
99 WHEREAS, Randall Hufstetler earned his bachelor's degree
1010 from Austin College and his law degree from St. Mary's University,
1111 and he began his legal career in 1986 as an associate in the firm of
1212 Hill, Ellis and Walker in Sherman; he went on to set up his own
1313 practice in Pearland in 1993; and
1414 WHEREAS, In 1995, Judge Hufstetler entered public service
1515 when he became an assistant district attorney for Brazoria County,
1616 and since 1999, he has been district judge for the county's 300th
1717 Judicial District Court, presiding over a dual docket of family
1818 court cases and felony criminal cases; between 2002 and 2014, he
1919 also served several terms as presiding judge of Brazoria County;
2020 following his retirement from the court, he plans to return to
2121 private practice; and
2222 WHEREAS, In addition to his responsibilities on the bench,
2323 Judge Hufstetler has taught at Alvin Community College and the
2424 University of Houston-Clear Lake, and he has been on the faculty of
2525 the National Family Law Trial Institute of Houston since 2013; he is
2626 currently a member of the Supreme Court of Texas Permanent Judicial
2727 Commission for Children, Youth, and Families, where he serves on
2828 the Task Force on Court-Appointed Legal Representation and as chair
2929 of the Legal Practice and Process Committee; and
3030 WHEREAS, Judge Hufstetler has also found time to serve as
3131 vice president of the Brazoria County Bar Association, as a judge on
3232 the Teen Court of Brazoria County, and as a member of the county's
3333 Community Supervision and Corrections Department board, Juvenile
3434 Probation Department board, and Bail Bond Board; a sought-after
3535 speaker, he has been recognized as the Judge of the Year by the
3636 Brazoria County Women's Bar Association and as the Professional of
3737 the Year by Brazoria County Youth & Family Counseling Services, and
3838 he has been inducted into the National Youth Court Center Volunteer
3939 Hall of Fame; and
4040 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Hufstetler enjoys the
4141 love and support of his wife of nearly 40 years, Danette Hufstetler,
4242 his children, Maegan and Kristopher, and his grandchildren, Chip,
4343 Hartley, and Kaden; and
4444 WHEREAS, Randall Hufstetler's dedication, expertise, and
4545 commitment to justice have greatly benefited the citizens of
4646 Brazoria County and earned him the respect and admiration of his
4747 peers, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his successful tenure
4848 on the court as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his
4949 life; now, therefore, be it
5050 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
5151 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Honorable
5252 K. Randall Hufstetler on his retirement from the 300th Judicial
5353 District Court of Brazoria County and extend to him sincere best
5454 wishes for the future; and, be it further
5555 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5656 prepared for Judge Hufstetler as an expression of high regard by the
5757 Texas House of Representatives.
