| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Bluebonnet Youth Ranch is hosting its 40th annual |

| 6 | 7 | | Celebrity Golf Tournament on October 9 and 10, 2021, and this |

| 7 | 8 | | occasion provides a welcome opportunity to recognize its founding |

| 8 | 9 | | chair, Claud B. Jacobs of Yoakum, for his extensive record of |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | community service; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In 1968, Mr. Jacobs joined with other area |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | businessmen to establish Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, a private, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | nonprofit facility licensed by the state to provide long-term |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | residential care and treatment to children in need; Mr. Jacobs |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | conceived of the golf tournament as a fundraiser for the home; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jacobs has served his community in myriad |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | capacities, including president of the Yoakum Jaycees, Area Chamber |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | of Commerce, and United Way Fund Drive; in addition, he founded |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Mended Hearts of Victoria, and he has held leadership roles in many |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | other charitable and civic organizations, among them the Yoakum |

| 20 | 21 | | Chapter of the American Cancer Society, the Food Bank of the Golden |

| 21 | 22 | | Crescent, the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, and the Victoria Port |

| 22 | 23 | | Authority; he also helped restart the City Championship golf |

| 23 | 24 | | tournament in Victoria, and the trophy was named in his honor; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Deeply committed to education, Mr. Jacobs has |

| 25 | 26 | | served as president of the board of St. Joseph School; he was a |

| 26 | 27 | | member of the University of Houston-Victoria presidential search |

| 27 | 28 | | committee and downward expansion committee, and he and his wife, |

| 28 | 29 | | Mary Virginia Jacobs, have endowed a nursing scholarship and golf |

| 29 | 30 | | and baseball scholarships at the institution; moreover, he has |

| 30 | 31 | | raised over $300,000 for UHV athletics through the Claud Jacobs |

| 31 | 32 | | Intercollegiate Tournament; the university presented him with its |

| 32 | 33 | | People Who Make a Difference Award, and his numerous accolades |

| 33 | 34 | | further include selection as Member of the Year by the Victoria |

| 34 | 35 | | Chamber of Commerce and as Citizen of the Year by the Victoria |

| 35 | 36 | | Rotary Club; and |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Claud Jacobs has greatly benefited his fellow |

| 37 | 38 | | citizens through his wide-ranging civic endeavors, and his example |

| 38 | 39 | | of dedicated leadership is an inspiration to all who know him; now, |

| 39 | 40 | | therefore, be it |

| 40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 41 | 42 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Claud B. Jacobs for |

| 42 | 43 | | his outstanding record of community service and extend to him |

| 43 | 44 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
