45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The city of Robstown lost an esteemed public servant
67 with the death of Joaquin Villarreal III on May 27, 2020, at the age
78 of 75; and
89 WHEREAS, Joaquin Villarreal III was born in Robstown on
910 January 25, 1945, to Joaquin and Maria Magdalena Villarreal, and he
1011 grew up with four sisters and one brother; after graduating from
1112 Robstown High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he
1213 specialized in jet engine mechanics and served a tour of duty in
1314 Vietnam; returning to civilian life, he earned his associate's
1415 degree from Del Mar College, his bachelor's degree in history and
1516 government from The University of Texas at Austin, and his law
1617 degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern
1718 University; and
1819 WHEREAS, Over the course of his long career in the public
1920 sector, Judge Villarreal served as assistant district attorney of
2021 Nueces County, as a Nueces County commissioner, and as judge of the
2122 County Court at Law 3, before retiring as judge of the 347th
2223 District Court in 2000; in retirement, he continued to serve as
2324 local presiding judge of the Nueces County Juvenile Board and as
2425 visiting judge of the 5th Administrative Judicial Region until
2526 2014; and
2627 WHEREAS, A leader in his community, Judge Villarreal was
2728 active with CASA, Scouts BSA, and the Chicano Law Students; he also
2829 generously supported such organizations as the Robstown Volunteer
2930 Fire Department, the Women's Shelter of South Texas, and the Food
3031 Bank of Corpus Christi, among many others; and
3132 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Villarreal enjoyed the
3233 love and support of his wife, Yolanda Villarreal, with whom he
3334 shared 56 years; he was the proud father of a son, Mario Javier
3435 Villarreal, who preceded him in death; and
3536 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community,
3637 Joaquin Villarreal III made a meaningful difference in the lives of
3738 his loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions
3839 will be remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4041 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4142 of Joaquin Villarreal III and extend heartfelt sympathy to his
4243 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4546 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joaquin
4647 Villarreal III.
