5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The city of Robstown lost an esteemed public servant |

6 | 7 | | with the death of Joaquin Villarreal III on May 27, 2020, at the age |
---|
7 | 8 | | of 75; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Joaquin Villarreal III was born in Robstown on |
---|
9 | 10 | | January 25, 1945, to Joaquin and Maria Magdalena Villarreal, and he |
---|
10 | 11 | | grew up with four sisters and one brother; after graduating from |
---|
11 | 12 | | Robstown High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he |
---|
12 | 13 | | specialized in jet engine mechanics and served a tour of duty in |
---|
13 | 14 | | Vietnam; returning to civilian life, he earned his associate's |
---|
14 | 15 | | degree from Del Mar College, his bachelor's degree in history and |
---|
15 | 16 | | government from The University of Texas at Austin, and his law |
---|
16 | 17 | | degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern |
---|
17 | 18 | | University; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his long career in the public |
---|
19 | 20 | | sector, Judge Villarreal served as assistant district attorney of |
---|
20 | 21 | | Nueces County, as a Nueces County commissioner, and as judge of the |
---|
21 | 22 | | County Court at Law 3, before retiring as judge of the 347th |
---|
22 | 23 | | District Court in 2000; in retirement, he continued to serve as |
---|
23 | 24 | | local presiding judge of the Nueces County Juvenile Board and as |
---|
24 | 25 | | visiting judge of the 5th Administrative Judicial Region until |
---|
25 | 26 | | 2014; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A leader in his community, Judge Villarreal was |
---|
27 | 28 | | active with CASA, Scouts BSA, and the Chicano Law Students; he also |
---|
28 | 29 | | generously supported such organizations as the Robstown Volunteer |
---|
29 | 30 | | Fire Department, the Women's Shelter of South Texas, and the Food |
---|
30 | 31 | | Bank of Corpus Christi, among many others; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Villarreal enjoyed the |
---|
32 | 33 | | love and support of his wife, Yolanda Villarreal, with whom he |
---|
33 | 34 | | shared 56 years; he was the proud father of a son, Mario Javier |
---|
34 | 35 | | Villarreal, who preceded him in death; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, |
---|
36 | 37 | | Joaquin Villarreal III made a meaningful difference in the lives of |
---|
37 | 38 | | his loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions |
---|
38 | 39 | | will be remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
40 | 41 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
41 | 42 | | of Joaquin Villarreal III and extend heartfelt sympathy to his |
---|
42 | 43 | | relatives and friends; and, be it further |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

44 | 45 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |

45 | 46 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joaquin |
