45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Vincent Hancock of Benbrook brought great honor to
67 his country by winning the gold medal in the men's skeet shooting
78 event at the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, held on July 25 and 26,
89 2021; and
910 WHEREAS, Coming into the Tokyo games, Mr. Hancock was the
1011 only shooter to have won the men's Olympic skeet competition twice,
1112 having triumphed in 2008 and 2012, and he also participated in the
1213 2016 games; he opened the 2021 event by hitting his first 100 shots
1314 in the qualifying round but missed three times in the final series,
1415 tying with five other shooters; he regained his composure with a
1516 flawless shoot-off and carried his momentum into the final round,
1617 where he set an Olympic record by hitting 59 of 60 targets and
1718 finished just one point off of the world mark; and
1819 WHEREAS, Mr. Hancock was inspired by his father to begin
1920 shooting competitively at age 11; just five years later, he won his
2021 first world championship title and the prestigious International
2122 Shooting Sport Federation Shooter of the Year award; among his
2223 numerous achievements, he is a 16-time World Cup medalist and holds
2324 the record for most world championships with four; in addition, he
2425 served in the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, rising to the rank of
2526 sergeant and earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Global
2627 War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the
2728 Distinguished International Shooter Badge; he has also excelled in
2829 his roles as a mentor, coach, and ambassador of his sport; in all
2930 his endeavors, he benefits from the support of his wife, Rebekah,
3031 and their daughters, Bailey and Brenlyn; and
3132 WHEREAS, By winning his third Olympic gold medal, Vincent
3233 Hancock has furthered his legacy as one of the top skeet shooters of
3334 all time, and he may take justifiable pride in a job well done; now,
3435 therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3637 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Vincent
3738 Hancock on winning the gold medal in men's skeet shooting at the
3839 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo and extend to him sincere best wishes
3940 for continued success; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for Mr. Hancock as an expression of high regard by the
4243 Texas House of Representatives.
