5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Central Texas Veterans Service Organization |

6 | 7 | | Alliance in Buda demonstrated a steadfast commitment to supporting |

7 | 8 | | area residents during the COVID-19 pandemic and the February 2021 |

8 | 9 | | winter storm; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, These unprecedented circumstances placed immense |
---|
10 | 11 | | burdens on our communities, and in response, the alliance set an |
---|
11 | 12 | | inspiring example of civic leadership; the organization is made up |
---|
12 | 13 | | of members from Buda VFW Post No. 12161, American Legion Post |
---|
13 | 14 | | No. 213, AMVETS Post No. 115, and the F7 Group; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In March 2020, the Central Texas veterans initiated |
---|
15 | 16 | | a COVID-19 relief operation that spanned four months; in that time, |
---|
16 | 17 | | volunteers sewed and distributed 12,000 masks in addition to |
---|
17 | 18 | | delivering 2,500 commercially made masks, and they equipped Texas |
---|
18 | 19 | | medical facilities with 5,500 surgical mask extenders; moreover, |
---|
19 | 20 | | the group provided food and supplies to approximately 50 families |
---|
20 | 21 | | in need; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In February 2021, the organization responded to the |
---|
22 | 23 | | devastation caused by Winter Storm Uri by launching a disaster |
---|
23 | 24 | | feeding program; under the leadership of Cassaundra |
---|
24 | 25 | | Melgar-C'De Baca, Rachel Patrick, Jay Gonzales, J. R. Gonzales, and |
---|
25 | 26 | | Kerman Hammond, volunteers served more than 31,000 meals to first |
---|
26 | 27 | | responders, utility workers, hospitals, nursing homes, and the |
---|
27 | 28 | | elderly and disabled over the course of six days; the initiative |
---|
28 | 29 | | also supplied thousands of families with food and water until local |
---|
29 | 30 | | infrastructure resumed operation; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The tireless dedication of the Central Texas |
---|
31 | 32 | | Veterans Service Organization Alliance has made a positive |
---|
32 | 33 | | difference in the lives of countless Texans during a time of crisis, |
---|
33 | 34 | | and the organization is truly deserving of special recognition for |
---|
34 | 35 | | its efforts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
36 | 37 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the Central Texas |

37 | 38 | | Veterans Service Organization Alliance for its service during the |

38 | 39 | | COVID-19 pandemic and the February 2021 winter storm and extend to |

39 | 40 | | the group's members sincere best wishes for continued success in |
