45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Central Texas Veterans Service Organization
67 Alliance in Buda demonstrated a steadfast commitment to supporting
78 area residents during the COVID-19 pandemic and the February 2021
89 winter storm; and
910 WHEREAS, These unprecedented circumstances placed immense
1011 burdens on our communities, and in response, the alliance set an
1112 inspiring example of civic leadership; the organization is made up
1213 of members from Buda VFW Post No. 12161, American Legion Post
1314 No. 213, AMVETS Post No. 115, and the F7 Group; and
1415 WHEREAS, In March 2020, the Central Texas veterans initiated
1516 a COVID-19 relief operation that spanned four months; in that time,
1617 volunteers sewed and distributed 12,000 masks in addition to
1718 delivering 2,500 commercially made masks, and they equipped Texas
1819 medical facilities with 5,500 surgical mask extenders; moreover,
1920 the group provided food and supplies to approximately 50 families
2021 in need; and
2122 WHEREAS, In February 2021, the organization responded to the
2223 devastation caused by Winter Storm Uri by launching a disaster
2324 feeding program; under the leadership of Cassaundra
2425 Melgar-C'De Baca, Rachel Patrick, Jay Gonzales, J. R. Gonzales, and
2526 Kerman Hammond, volunteers served more than 31,000 meals to first
2627 responders, utility workers, hospitals, nursing homes, and the
2728 elderly and disabled over the course of six days; the initiative
2829 also supplied thousands of families with food and water until local
2930 infrastructure resumed operation; and
3031 WHEREAS, The tireless dedication of the Central Texas
3132 Veterans Service Organization Alliance has made a positive
3233 difference in the lives of countless Texans during a time of crisis,
3334 and the organization is truly deserving of special recognition for
3435 its efforts; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3637 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the Central Texas
3738 Veterans Service Organization Alliance for its service during the
3839 COVID-19 pandemic and the February 2021 winter storm and extend to
3940 the group's members sincere best wishes for continued success in
4041 their important work; and, be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for the alliance as an expression of high regard by the
4344 Texas House of Representatives.
