45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Earl Wayne Fletcher Sr. of Longview on July 3, 2021, at
78 the age of 95; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Herman and Alice Fletcher, Earl Fletcher
910 was born in Rio Hondo on April 24, 1926, and he grew up with the
1011 companionship of 10 siblings, Don, Bob, Barbara, Melvin, Doug,
1112 David, Johnny, Karen Ann, Nancy, and Evalynn; he graduated from Rio
1213 Hondo High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree at Texas
1314 A&I University in Kingsville; answering his nation's call to duty,
1415 he joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Franklin
1516 during World War II; and
1617 WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Fletcher became a
1718 chemist at the Hoechst Celanese Corporation and later worked as an
1819 insurance agent for State Farm; and
1920 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Fletcher enjoyed the love
2021 and support of his wife, Ruth, with whom he shared a rewarding union
2122 until her passing; he took great pride in his two children, Wayne
2223 and Elaine, and with the passing years, he had the pleasure of
2324 seeing his family grow to include six grandchildren and six
2425 great-grandchildren; sustained by a deep and abiding faith, he was
2526 a valued congregant of First Baptist Church Kingsville, where he
2627 also served as a deacon; upon moving to Village Mills in 1996, he
2728 joined Wildwood Baptist Church; and
2829 WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his
2930 country, Earl Fletcher earned the lasting respect and admiration of
3031 all who were privileged to know him, and they will forever hold him
3132 close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3334 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
3435 Earl Wayne Fletcher Sr. and extend sincere condolences to all who
3536 mourn his passing; and, be it further
3637 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3738 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3839 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Earl
3940 Fletcher.
