8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Joining a distinguished group of honorees, |

9 | 10 | | Mr. White entered the PVILCA Hall of Fame as part of its "Bridging |

10 | 11 | | the Gap" project, which was created to focus attention on the |

11 | 12 | | integration of the two primary sports and academic competition |
---|
12 | 13 | | leagues in Texas, the Prairie View Interscholastic League and the |
---|
13 | 14 | | University Interscholastic League; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A native of Tyler County, Mr. White was a member of |
---|
15 | 16 | | the first class of Black students to complete all four years of |
---|
16 | 17 | | study at Warren High School; though he faced bigotry in those early |
---|
17 | 18 | | years of integration, he excelled in his studies and as a multisport |
---|
18 | 19 | | athlete; after graduating in 1976, he received a basketball |
---|
19 | 20 | | scholarship to Temple Junior College, and he went on to transfer to |
---|
20 | 21 | | Sam Houston State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree |
---|
21 | 22 | | in sociology and history; he later obtained a master's degree in |
---|
22 | 23 | | educational administration from Prairie View A&M University; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. White has enjoyed a long and accomplished career |

24 | 25 | | as a coach and educator; after joining the faculty at West Brook |
---|
25 | 26 | | High School, he took the helm of the Lady Bruins basketball team and |
---|
26 | 27 | | ultimately compiled 350 wins as head coach; moreover, he also |
---|
27 | 28 | | coached volleyball and served as an assistant for West Brook |
---|
28 | 29 | | football and track teams that won state championships; he is |
---|
29 | 30 | | renowned as an influential mentor who has made a positive |
---|
30 | 31 | | difference in the lives of many students, and he has been recognized |

31 | 32 | | by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and the Texas Girls |

32 | 33 | | Coaches Association for his contributions to high school sports; |

34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Now retired from coaching, Mr. White continues to |

35 | 36 | | teach history at West Brook High, where he has worked for 40 years; |

36 | 37 | | in all of his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife, |

38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Through his dedicated efforts, Jessie White has set |

39 | 40 | | an outstanding example to which others may aspire, and he is indeed |

40 | 41 | | deserving of this prestigious hall of fame tribute; now, therefore, |
