6 | 7 | | memories of Vandie Lindsey Smith Jr. of Magnolia Springs, who died |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Vandie Smith Sr. and Lula Bell Smith, |

9 | 10 | | Vandie Smith was born in Beaumont on December 15, 1956; he graduated |

10 | 11 | | from Kirbyville High School in 1975 and went on to enjoy a career |
---|
11 | 12 | | with Temple-Inland and MeadWestvaco that spanned nearly four |
---|
12 | 13 | | decades until his retirement; in 1986, he joined the Tri-Community |
---|
13 | 14 | | Volunteer Fire Department, rising through the ranks to become the |
---|
14 | 15 | | department's chief in 2007 and serving in that position until the |
---|
15 | 16 | | end of his life; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Smith shared a rewarding 45-year marriage with |
---|
17 | 18 | | his wife, Myrtha, and he was a devoted father to their four |
---|
18 | 19 | | children, Vandie, Shanta, Bryan, and Brent; later in life, he took |
---|
19 | 20 | | great pride in welcoming into his family 10 grandchildren and 2 |

20 | 21 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Uncle Len," Mr. Smith |

22 | 23 | | delighted in the time he spent with his loved ones, and he was a |

23 | 24 | | Little League coach for many years; he also enjoyed hunting, |

24 | 25 | | fishing, farming, and traveling; an active member of Magnolia |

25 | 26 | | Springs Church of God in Christ, he served the congregation as |
---|
26 | 27 | | deacon; and |

27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Vandie Smith lived a rich and purposeful life |

28 | 29 | | devoted to his family, his community, and his faith, and he leaves |

29 | 30 | | behind a record of service that will continue to inspire all those |

30 | 31 | | who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it |
