| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The colonization of India by the British began in |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | 1757 and continued for nearly two centuries; during World War I and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | in the years that followed, the Indian independence movement gained |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | momentum under the leadership of Mohandas Gandhi, who urged his |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | followers to fight for their sovereignty through peaceful means; |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | British colonial authorities responded by jailing Gandhi and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | hundreds of others, but opposition to British rule continued to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | grow among the Indian people; following the conclusion of World War |

| 16 | 17 | | II, the moment of liberation was at hand; and |

| 25 | 26 | | celebrated not only in India but also in the United States and in |
|---|

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The story of India's hard-fought and ultimately |
