No. 98 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of Peggy Ferguson of Dumas on August 23, 2021, at the age of 82; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Elvie and Myrtle Blackshear, the former Peggy Blackshear was born in Lockney on December 17, 1938; she grew up in Dumas in a large family that included her 14 siblings, Dorothy, Billie, Royce, Perry, R. L., Horace, Junior, Ina, Trummie, A. W., Robert, Jack, Dub, and Farris; and WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Ferguson enjoyed the love and support of her husband, Tom, with whom she shared a rewarding marriage that spanned four decades; she took great pride in her five children, Bud, Kim, Jaimie, Daniel, and Aimie, and with the passing years, she had the pleasure of welcoming into her family 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Ferguson worked alongside her husband at Ad Rem Land Company, and she helped ensure that the business demonstrated the highest standards of ethics and service; deeply dedicated to her community, she volunteered with Court Appointed Special Advocates and served on the Moore County Appraisal Review Board; moreover, she gave generously of her time to the Dumas Noon Lions Club for 27 years, and she held the distinction of becoming the organization's first female president; among her many achievements, she was honored with the CASA Volunteer of the Year award, and she won the prize for Best Cobbler in the 2007 Best Pie in the West contest; and WHEREAS, Gifted with a rich alto singing voice, Mrs. Ferguson was fond of music, especially gospel hymns and classic country tunes; she was also an avid fan of Texas Tech football and the Dallas Cowboys; in her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, and she delighted in holiday celebrations and family gatherings; and WHEREAS, Possessed of a warm and generous nature, a keen sense of humor, and a joyous zest for life, Peggy Ferguson brightened the world for all who knew her, and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Peggy Ferguson and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her husband, Tom Ferguson; to her siblings, Dorothy Sipes, Billie Payne, Royce Blackshear, and Perry Blackshear; to her children, Bud Martin and his wife, Brenda, Kim Yearwood and her husband, Mark, Jaimie Wilson and her husband, Matt, Daniel Ferguson and his wife, Jennifer, and Aimie Ingersoll and her husband, Chad; to her grandchildren, Damon, Tyler, Chelsea, Brad, Arila Nichole, Jake, Emily, Troy, Benjamin, Christian, Jayci, Jaz, and Lando; to her great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Peggy Ferguson.
