55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
66 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and
77 friends of Gus Leo Wolf of Big Sandy, who passed away on April 7,
88 2020, at the age of 68; and
99 WHEREAS, Gus Wolf was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands,
1010 in 1951; his family immigrated to the United States in 1956 and
1111 eventually settled in Dunellen, New Jersey, where he graduated
1212 from high school in 1969; he went on to earn a business degree
1313 from Union County College, and he became a member of American
1414 Mensa; and
1515 WHEREAS, In 1975, Mr. Wolf exchanged wedding vows with
1616 Joanne Sweeney, and the couple shared a rewarding marriage that
1717 spanned nearly four and a half decades; they were blessed with 4
1818 children, Spencer, Taylor, Graeme, and Hayden, all of whom they
1919 homeschooled, and they later welcomed 12 grandchildren into
2020 their family; and
2121 WHEREAS, Over the course of a successful career, Mr. Wolf
2222 served as a production manager and supervisor, a systems analyst,
2323 and a materials and office manager for a number of companies,
2424 including Simmonds Precision Products, the Lockheed Corporation,
2525 Foremost Manufacturing, Frigidaire, and Kaufman Stairs;
2626 additionally, he did voice-overs and radio spots for WFME in New
2727 York and for Family Stations, Inc.; in 2007, he and his family
2828 relocated to Big Sandy in East Texas, where he worked in outside
2929 sales in the health insurance field with such entities as Aflac,
3030 Lincoln Heritage, and United Healthcare; and
3131 WHEREAS, More recently, Mr. Wolf and his wife had
3232 established Piney Creek Farm, providing organically grown
3333 produce to East Texas restaurants and health food stores;
3434 Mr. Wolf was also an avid beekeeper, and he led the East Texas
3535 Beekeepers Association and the Longview Beekeeper's Association
3636 as president; in addition, he was heavily involved with the
3737 International ALERT Academy in Big Sandy, and he participated in
3838 numerous events and conferences; and
3939 WHEREAS, A man of strong faith, Mr. Wolf regularly spoke
4040 from the pulpit at both the Brookwood Bible Chapel in Longview
4141 and the Golden Bible Chapel; he was engaged in Bible Study
4242 Fellowship and served as a children's leader and as the assistant
4343 teaching leader for the men's class in Longview; and
4444 WHEREAS, Admired for his wisdom, his kind and generous
4545 nature, and his sharp wit, Gus Wolf brightened the world for all
4646 who knew him, and they will forever hold him close in their
4747 hearts; now, therefore, be it
4848 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
4949 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life
5050 of Gus Leo Wolf and extend deepest condolences to the members of
5151 his family: to his wife, Joanne; to his sons, Spencer and Graeme;
5252 to his daughters, Taylor and Hayden; to his sister, Inge; to his
5353 grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
5454 further
5555 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
5656 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
5757 this day, it do so in memory of Gus Wolf.
