2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		recognize Dr. Clay Johnston, who is stepping down as dean of the
4	8		Dell Medical School and vice president for Medical Affairs at The
5	9		University of Texas at Austin; and
6	10		WHEREAS, Dr. Johnston joined the university in 2014 to
7	11		serve as the inaugural dean of the Dell Medical School; he had
8	12		previously served as associate vice chancellor for Research at
9	13		the University of California, San Francisco, where he also
10	14		directed the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and
11	15		founded the UCSF Center for Healthcare Value; and
12	16		WHEREAS, A pioneer in health care transformation,
13	17		Dr. Johnston has played a leading role in shaping Dell Medical
14	18		School into an institution that embraces the challenges of a new
15	19		century rather than adhering to tradition and habit; under his
16	20		leadership, the school and its clinical practice, UT Health
17	21		Austin, have focused on innovation in models of care, community
18	22		impact, and collaboration with other Central Texas health
19	23		systems; and
20	24		WHEREAS, A noted neurologist who has specialized in stroke
21	25		care and research, Dr. Johnston has authored more than 300
22	26		articles in scientific journals and has received multiple awards
23	27		for his research and teaching; due to his outstanding leadership,
24	28		the Dell Medical School has attracted millions in grant funding
25	29		and has earned its reputation as a first-rate academic health
26	30		center; and
27	31		WHEREAS, A dedicated physician and innovative
28	32		administrator, Dr. Johnston is respected and admired throughout
29	33		the medical community, and his presence at the Dell Medical
30	34		School will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
31	35		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
32	36		Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Clay
33	37		Johnston on his exceptional leadership of the Dell Medical School
34	38		and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his
35	39		endeavors; and, be it further
36	40		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
37	41		him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
