5 | 6 | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | |
6 | 7 | Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas in mourning the loss of | |
7 | 8 | Principal Chief Herbert G. Johnson Sr., who died August 9, 2021, | |

9 | 10 | WHEREAS, A member of the Beaver Clan, this beloved tribe | |
10 | 11 | leader served his people in numerous capacities throughout his | |
11 | 12 | life; he was a patient mentor and youth advocate, and he inspired | |
12 | 13 | others to joyfully uphold long-held tribal traditions and | |
13 | 14 | values; and | |
14 | - | WHEREAS, Herbert Johnson was born on April 3, 1942, on | |

22 | 23 | stepped in as principal chief, the tribe's Mikko Choba Skalaaba, | |
23 | 24 | in 2020; the esteemed community leader also served as an elder at | |
24 | 25 | the Indian Presbyterian Church, and he was a member of the Big | |
25 | 26 | Sandy Independent School District School Board for 48 years; and | |
26 | - | WHEREAS, Herbert Johnson guided the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe | |
27 | - | of Texas with strength, wisdom, and compassion, and he leaves | |
