| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the annual Shin Oak Springs BBQ Cook-off in Gorman, |

| 4 | 4 | | which takes place the second Saturday in September; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This popular annual event is hosted by the Gorman |

| 6 | 6 | | Community Events Committee and takes place in partnership with |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the Gorman Peanut Festival; each year, the highly anticipated |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | competition draws an impressive lineup of skilled cooks who |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | compete and pay tribute to the state's ranching industry by |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | preparing delicious barbecued beef, chicken, and pork ribs; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The Shin Oak Springs BBQ Cook-off raises funds to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | benefit the community by supporting such events as the Easter Egg |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Hunt, Trunk or Treat, and movie nights in the park, and by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | sponsoring scholarships for area students; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the Shin Oak Springs BBQ Cook-offs play an important role in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | upholding the state's reputation for barbecue excellence by |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | providing enjoyable community gatherings and first-rate cuisine; |

| 19 | 19 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the organizers |

| 22 | 22 | | and sponsors of the annual Shin Oak Springs BBQ Cook-off and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | extend to all best wishes for a successful event; and, be it |
