| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Michael Lee, who is retiring as director of Engineering |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | and Safety Operations for the Texas Department of Transportation |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | after 24 years of outstanding service with the agency; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, After earning a degree in petroleum engineering |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | from Texas A&M University, Michael Lee opened his own residential |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | water well firm in 1988 in Northeast Texas; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, He joined the Texas Department of Transportation |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in 1997 as an engineering assistant in Mount Pleasant, and he |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | went on to serve as a transportation engineer in the Marshall and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Atlanta area offices; in 2007, he was promoted to the position of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | area engineer for San Augustine; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Michael was hired as director of operations for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the Paris District in 2013, and his natural leadership abilities |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | led to his promotion as Maintenance Division director the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | following year; as a division leader, he encouraged a culture of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | quality customer service, collaboration, and accountability, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in 2017, he was named director of Engineering and Safety |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Operations; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In his role as director, Michael has improved |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | agency standards for safety and efficiency, and due to his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | leadership and expertise, the Texas Department of Transportation |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | has become a national model for emergency response; he has set |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | lasting standards for excellence at the department, and he can |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | reflect with pride on his years of distinguished service to the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | citizens of Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby recognize Michael Lee on |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | his outstanding career and his many contributions to the Lone |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Star State and extend to him best wishes in all his future |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 34 | 34 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
