No. 44 SENATE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Ora Mae Thomas, who died August 24, 2021, at the age of 99; and WHEREAS, A native of Waskom, this distinguished Texan was born to Steve and Georgia Moody on October 6, 1921; and WHEREAS, Ora earned a bachelor of science degree from Bishop College and a master of education degree from Prairie View A&M University; she received multiple honors for professional excellence during her 38-year career in education, and she further expressed her love of teaching by serving as an after-school tutor and as a Sunday school teacher; she was also a general Sunday school superintendent; and WHEREAS, A woman of great faith and spiritual devotion, Ora was a respected member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church; she participated in the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Discussion Group, and she enjoyed hosting Bible studies for the sick and needy; and WHEREAS, This beloved community steward gave generously of her time to a number of civic and charitable groups; she was a volunteer at the Veterans' Hospital and the Dallas Public Library, and her accolades include a 2002 Community Service Award bestowed by the Senior Affairs Commission of Dallas; and WHEREAS, Ora Thomas was the devoted mother of two daughters, and she was blessed with four grandchildren and a great-grandson; she was a cherished matriarch and an esteemed member of her community, and she will long be remembered with respect and admiration by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Ora Mae Thomas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ora Thomas.
