5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Ora Mae Thomas, who |
---|
7 | 7 | | died August 24, 2021, at the age of 99; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Waskom, this distinguished Texan was |
---|
9 | 9 | | born to Steve and Georgia Moody on October 6, 1921; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Ora earned a bachelor of science degree from |
---|
11 | 11 | | Bishop College and a master of education degree from Prairie View |
---|
12 | 12 | | A&M University; she received multiple honors for professional |
---|
13 | 13 | | excellence during her 38-year career in education, and she |
---|
14 | 14 | | further expressed her love of teaching by serving as an |
---|
15 | 15 | | after-school tutor and as a Sunday school teacher; she was also a |
---|
16 | 16 | | general Sunday school superintendent; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A woman of great faith and spiritual devotion, Ora |
---|
18 | 18 | | was a respected member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church; she |
---|
19 | 19 | | participated in the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Discussion Group, |
---|
20 | 20 | | and she enjoyed hosting Bible studies for the sick and needy; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, This beloved community steward gave generously of |
---|
22 | 22 | | her time to a number of civic and charitable groups; she was a |
---|
23 | 23 | | volunteer at the Veterans' Hospital and the Dallas Public |
---|
24 | 24 | | Library, and her accolades include a 2002 Community Service Award |
---|
25 | 25 | | bestowed by the Senior Affairs Commission of Dallas; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Ora Thomas was the devoted mother of two |
---|
27 | 27 | | daughters, and she was blessed with four grandchildren and a |
---|
28 | 28 | | great-grandson; she was a cherished matriarch and an esteemed |
---|
29 | 29 | | member of her community, and she will long be remembered with |
---|
30 | 30 | | respect and admiration by all who were privileged to share in her |
---|
31 | 31 | | life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
---|
34 | 34 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Ora Mae Thomas; and, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | further |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

37 | 37 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
