| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The retirement of Martin R. Smith as a district |

| 3 | 3 | | engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation on |

| 4 | 4 | | August 31, 2021, offers a fitting opportunity to reflect on his |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | outstanding record of service to that agency; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Smith has faithfully served the citizens of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the Childress District throughout his more than 38-year career |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | with TxDOT; he is the second-longest-serving district engineer |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in the district's history, and he has contributed vital |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | leadership to a number of transportation projects over the course |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of a decade; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Distinguishing himself in his role as director of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | transportation planning and development, Mr. Smith was |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | responsible for two of the largest projects ever undertaken by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the Childress District; among his achievements, he was |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | instrumental in the design of the Super 2 highway system, which |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | allows for safer and more efficient passing opportunities on |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | rural two-lane highways; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A committed champion of his community, Martin Smith |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | may reflect with pride on all that he has accomplished in its behalf |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and in the knowledge that his contributions will continue to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | benefit Texans for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Martin R. Smith on |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the occasion of his retirement as Childress District engineer for |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the Texas Department of Transportation and extend to him sincere |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
