By: Hughes S.R. No. 47 SENATE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Sergeant Gregg A. Greer is retiring from the Texas Highway Patrol in Marshall on August 31, 2021, drawing to a close an exemplary career in law enforcement that has spanned nearly 28 years; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Sergeant Greer first joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1994; as a member of the Texas Highway Patrol, he became involved in accident reconstruction and was eventually promoted to head of the Tyler district crash reconstruction team; over the years, he has responded to major incidents involving natural disasters, crowd management situations, and border operations, and he has provided expert testimony on vehicle crashes in multiple East Texas counties; moreover, he has embraced his role as a supervisor for troopers in Harrison and Marion Counties, and he has further served his agency by teaching courses on firearms, crash investigation, and crash reconstruction; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Greer was named a recipient of the Outstanding Rookie award by the Texas Conference of Police and Sheriffs in 1995, and he went on to be recognized with the Merit Law Enforcement Award in 1999 and with two District Service Commander's Awards in 2002 and 2004; committed to his professional development, he has also attained his master peace officer certification, as well as numerous other advanced credentials; and WHEREAS, Gregg Greer's expertise, professionalism, and dedication to the core values of the Department of Public Safety have greatly benefited the citizens of Texas and earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow officers, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 87th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Sergeant Gregg A. Greer on his retirement from the Texas Highway Patrol in Marshall and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Sergeant Greer as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
